Welcome to MCF!
When my family and I arrived in China in 2008, we immediately fell in love with it, its people and its culture. We were awestruck with the country’s potential and there is no better expression of that potential than its children.
It’s inevitable that with such enormous growth and change in any country over just a few decades, some would be left behind. Soon after my arrival, I had the opportunity to visit a migrant school in Beijing, teaching some of the very best and brightest kids and straight away decided I could help. The Migrant Children Foundation was born.
Since then, I’m proud to say we have grown into one of the most impactful volunteer run groups in the city, based on three pillars:
Our Belief – We take a holistic approach, that a full and rounded childhood comes not just from education but also from healthcare, experiences and having fun – developmental areas most at risk for families on the fringes of society. That’s why we provide much more than in-class opportunities, including fun field trips, cultural events, health check-ups, dental visits, eye tests and free glasses along with individual support for those most in need.
Our Commitment – MCF is unique in its full commitment to China, demonstrated by our 12 years in operation. Our stability lets us make long-term decisions regarding provisions for our kids, be that in paying education fees for students who would otherwise go without or delivering specialist care for little Fan Fan who has cerebral palsy.
Our Community – We are a family of volunteers, local and international, from interns to professionals. We believe that our kids have as much to give to us as we have to them, meaning we all get to inspire and be inspired.
